BTS member Jungkook announced that he will be co-headlining the highly anticipated Global Citizen Festival 2023; this will be the second time he is headlining such a prestigious and massive event.
"I'm so thrilled to join this year's 'Global Citizen Festival' as a headliner!" The KPOP star's statement read. "The festival sheds light on important causes and drives action, and I'm happy to take part in it. I can't wait to perform in front of many people at the Great Lawn in Central Park."
Jungkook will be the second KPOP act to join this year's Global Citizen Festival, following KPOP boy group Stray Kids, who were included in the initial announcement of the lineup.
The upcoming music festival also happens to be the first time the KPOP star will be performing as a solo act with his newly released music.
Jungkook's New Music
If fans are expecting Jungkook to perform new songs in addition to his chart-topping hit "Seven," they might be disappointed because the KPOP star has not announced the release of new music as of this writing.
In fact, Jungkook revealed that he will be releasing his solo debut album by November, months after the Global Citizen Festival, which will be held on Sept. 23.
But fans should not lose hope because the singer did mention that he will be dropping another single before the album's release.
"I have another single. And then, I'll be releasing a small mini-album by November," Jungkook said during his interview with fellow BTS member Suga.
"[...] I have to start working on them now," he continued. "I want a song like ['Seven'] for my second single too, but I haven't found it."
Global Citizen Festival 2023
According to reports, this year's Global Citizen Festival lineup is star-studded. It includes the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Anitta, Megan Thee Stallion, Conan Grey, Sofia Carson, Lauryn Hill, and more.
On top of the musical acts, a number of influential personalities will also be making an appearance at the music festival, like Bill Nye, Bridget Moynahan, Busy Philipps, Carmelo Anthony, Gayle King, Padma Lakshmi, Sophia, Bush, and more.
"As each inconsequential global forum passes this year without tangible results or disruption of the world's unjust systems, more people are abandoned to cycles of extreme poverty," said Hugh Evans, the Co-Founder and CEO of Global Citizen.
"[...] If we want to see breakthroughs on financing for development, climate change, and famine, and to help marginalized women and girls, we must be laser-focused on holding leaders in government, business, and philanthropy to account for the promises they have made to the world."
