At the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards, Shakira was the star of the night because she received the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award for her outstanding contribution and impact on the music industry and visual media. She was the artist of South American descent to be the first recipient of the award.
She performed a medley of her show-stopping hits in a breathtaking performance, which included belly dancing, an elaborate dance choreography, and a crowd-surfing moment with the audience.
Her collaboration with Karol G, "TQG," in "Mañana Sera Bonito," was awarded Best Collaboration. The two Colombian stars received the award and gave a thrilling speech, dedicating the award to their home country.
Throughout the night, it could be expected that Shakira would attract a lot of people to want to have a photograph with her, and this includes celebrities like Tiffany Haddish. Haddish was there to present the Best Afrobeats Award, which went to Rema and Selena Gomez's "Calm Down."
A video of Haddish went viral online as she made a beeline toward Shakira while shouting her name in front of many people, trying to get her name. Some photos also emerged online when she's trying so hard to capture the singer's attention as she photobombs her in her photos with other people and on the red carpet while posing for her awards.
Haddish then scored a photo with Shakira when she was having her photo taken with Karol G.
Some fans took notice that Shakira wasn't that thrilled with Haddish's antics throughout the night and the comedienne took the beating online.
