When Celine Dion had to step down for her Vegas residency until March to be with her husband of 20 years, René Angélil, as he battles cancer, Caesars Palace went on the hunt for an interim replacement. The rumor mill fixated on one of their favorite couples - Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert - and insisted that though Caesars offered the two a cool million to perform together for one weekend -- and they turned it down!
It got bad enough that AEG Live, the arena's operator, made a public statement about it. "AEG and Caesars Entertainment have a wonderful relationship with Blake and Miranda, and would love the opportunity to have them perform at any of their venues worldwide, including The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, but the report is not true. AEG Live and Caesars Palace look forward to announcing upcoming bookings and performances as they become available."
While Blake and Miranda together on stage would be a great show, apparently it's much for fun to talk about the power couple being too greedy to take the deal. According to Perez Hilton and TMZ (among others), they said no because they wanted $1.25 million. IF the deal had been offered and IF they had said no, maybe it would be simply because they're just too busy going through their fifth divorce or they're preparing for their sixth set of twins to do it! (Remember the tabloid fodder?)
Who do you think Caesars should get to take Celine's place temporarily? Taylor Swift would fill seats but is her appeal aimed at the age group they're looking for? Nicki Minaj would be interesting but her props have a habit of biting people. Katy Perry would be a good fit, as would Carrie Underwood (if she performs while she's pregnant) or Shakira.
