It's no secret that Miranda Lambert loves dogs. She has six at home and her MuttNation Foundation, founded by her and her mom, has spent the past five years partnering with shelters and animal assistance organizations to provide spay and neuter programs, medical treatments, adoptions, preventions, transportation, legislative changes, and education. Pedigree has been making dog food for longer than Miranda has been breathing. When the three came together in Tishomingo, Oklahoma to create an animal shelter where there was none, magic happened.
Miranda says that it all started when she met the head of animal control in Tishomingo. She was invited to see the existing shelter and what she saw broke her heart. She shared, "I was like, 'What shelter? There is no shelter.' It broke my heart. I called my mom, crying, and I was like, 'We have to do something in Tishomingo. There’s nothing.'"
MuttNation mobilized and Pedigree stepped in to help, bringing over 50 volunteers in from all over the country to build. They spent two days, working side by side with Miranda and her parents, to improve the shelter. By the time they were all done, there was a play yard, an agility course, tires, stairs and plenty of things to keep the dogs active and healthy.
The next big hurdle was food - where to get the right food to keep their furry guests well fed. Again, Pedigree stepped up. Miranda thought that their offer was "a load" but they surprised her by saying that they could have all they want "for a long time." It turns out that Pedigree has donated over 20 million pounds of food since 2008.
If you want to see what love for dogs look like, just watch the video below. Miranda Lambert is the real deal. If we cared for each other even half as much as she cares for dogs, we would be a much better society!
