In a show of competitive spirit, Mariah Carey aims to keep her title as the Queen of Christmas after hearing that Cher plans to release a holiday album.
For over two decades, Mariah Carey's rendition of "All I Want For Christmas Is You" has been a mainstay during the holiday season.
At 54, she had no intention of granting any part of the profits to Cher.
As soon as the 77-year-old singer revealed her plans for a holiday album, it was obvious that her fans were ecstatic.
When informed of Cher's recent success, the "Through the Rain" singer was angry.
An anonymous source who spoke to an outlet and labeled her reaction to this competition as "pathetic." Mariah's ire then focused on Cher as a direct result of this news.
The National Enquirer spoke to a source who relayed that Mariah has been verbally lambasting Cher for releasing a Christmas album even though Cher has yet to respond to her. "It's pretty pathetic," said the source.
Millions of dollars - that's what this is all about, the source added. Ever since her hit song was released in 1994, Mariah has made a whopping $70 million; even now, she earns approximately $1.2 million annually.
As the anonymous source noted, the "Butterfly" singer does not enjoy having to share the limelight during the holiday season.
"Mariah's cash cow is her annual release of a classic holiday song, and, like a spoiled child, she doesn't want anyone else getting too much attention," they explained.
The insider further said that Mariah has a history of being competitive with other stars who also have their festive songs.
Rumor has it that Mariah Carey was livid when pop sensation Christina Aguilera released her hit holiday album, "My Kind of Christmas," twenty years ago in October 2000.
According to a close source, "Whenever another artist, especially a female artist, releases a Christmas-themed record, Mariah goes ballistic."
Now, Mariah's behavior hasn't had the same effect on Cher as on other stars.
According to the insider, Cher isn't someone who will treat her antics lightly.
"Cher is far too experienced and mature for this kind of thing," the source shared, adding that she must have a good chuckle about it.
Despite Mariah Carey's ongoing feud with another artist, it seems unlikely their next album would match her hit song's impressive 415 million views and 4.5 million likes on YouTube.
The insider noted this was a one-way quarrel and making Mariah increasingly miserable. Regardless, she can take solace in knowing that her record is unlikely to be beaten anytime soon.
Still, it's best to take this report with a grain of salt.
