Smash Mouth's fans will be able to bid goodbye to Steve Harwell following his tragic death.
Harwell died on September 4 hours after his representative confirmed that he entered hospice care after his liver failure reached its final stages. His family and friends made time to visit him at the medical facility in the days prior to his demise.
A few hours after the announcement, the musician died from liver failure caused by his years-long alcohol abuse.
Smash Mouth Singer Steve Harwell Cremated
Steve Harwell's manager, Robert Hayes, exclusively shared an update to a news outlet nearly a month after the singer passed away.
He revealed that the "Then the Morning Comes" singer has been cremated and that a memorial will be open for all his fans.
After the public viewing, his ashes will reach their final resting place at Los Gatos Memorial Park in San Jose, Calif. The news outlet noted that his bereaved family also wants to have a headstone marker on his grave so they can continue visiting him.
Hayes added that he was supposed to be laid to rest next to his mother, who is buried at the Oak Hill Memorial Park. Due to lack of space, they changed their plans and decided to have him buried at Los Gatos instead.
When Will Steve Harwell's Memorial Start?
According to the report, Harwell's family will launch a public memorial on October 7 at Los Gatos, and they expect that over 300 people will be in attendance.
There will be a private reception exclusive for his family and close friends afterward.
Harwell died in hospice care after his battle with liver failure. The frontman previously showed signs of deteriorating health caused by his alcohol abuse, including the time Smash Mouth held a concert in Bethel, N.Y.
At that time, a viral video recorded him drinking onstage and flashing his middle fingers throughout the performance because of the issues in the PA system.
He also suffered cardiomyopathy and heart failure a year before he suffered trouble breathing before a Smash Mouth concert in 2017. In addition, he developed Wernicke encephalopathy, which affected his speech and memory before his death.
According to health websites, the condition occurs due to thiamine deficiency and chronic alcoholism.
