Matty Healy is one of the most controversial celebrities out there right now, and the singer has revealed why that is so during his apology speech during The 1975's concert.

"Because some of my actions have hurt some people, I apologise to those people, and I pledge to do better moving forward," the band's frontman said.

"You see, as an artist, I want to create an environment for myself to perform where not everything that I do is taken literally."

Furthermore, he also noted that he likes to "play pretend" and embody the "character role of the 21st-century rock star" which is exactly how he landed in those sticky and nasty situations in the first place.

"And you could probably also say that men would rather do offensive impressions for attention than go to therapy," he added.

Matty Healy's Racist Remark About Ice Spice

Earlier this year, netizens criticized and accused Healy of being a racist, after he called Ice Spice a "chubby Chinese lady' during an interview.

He sort of apologized to the rap star during The 1975's concert in Auckland, "I just feel a bit bad, and I'm kind of a bit sorry if I've offended you. Ice Spice, I'm sorry.

"It's not because I'm annoyed that my joking got misconstrued. It's because I don't want Ice Spice to think I'm a dick. I love you, Ice Spice. I'm so sorry."

Meanwhile, Ice Spice was not even bothered by Healy's comment and revealed that the frontman had already apologized to her personally regarding the incident.

"When I had heard that little podcast or whatever, I was so confused. Because I heard 'chubby Chinese lady' or some s**t like that, and I'm like, 'Huh? What does that even mean?'

"The whole time, I didn't really care... He apologized to me a bunch of times. We're good," she added.

Netizens Bash Matty Healy's Apology

Despite Healy's best efforts to make amends after sharing his controversial hot takes, netizens have expressed their disgust towards the singer.

"This is the 38473 time I've seen a statement of a video of this guy saying he will be better and then a week later he'll tweet a slur," one wrote.

"I hate these vague ass apologizes you said racist shit and you need to directly address THAT and apologize for THAT."
