Kansas City Chiefs President Comments on Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift's Spotlights
Amid the backlash caused by the NFL due to its excessive coverage of the two's personal lives, the Kansas City Chiefs president said Kelce and his team are handling it with professionalism.
President Mark Donovan exclusively told People before the Kansas City Chiefs and New York Jets game that the team does not think about the media frenzy too much and assured that it would not distract them in their plays.
He applauded the Chiefs tight end for being a smart team player who has been very professional since the beginning.
"[Travis Kelce] focused on the right things and doing it the right way," he says. "Our locker room has the maturity, leadership and respect to handle it."
Instead of calling it a distraction, Donovan said the attention led the team to have more fun during the games.
According to FOX Sports, the NFL's viewership reached an all-time high when Swift attended the September 24 game at Arrowhead Stadium. Around 24.3 million viewers reportedly turned in, with female viewers ages 12 to 49 securing a huge percentage.
Per the Chiefs President, fans tuned into the league to see Swift support the team.
What Travis Kelce Thinks of the Attention
In the "New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce Presented by Wave Sports + Entertainment" podcast, Kelce shared his thoughts about the ongoing coverage.
"I think it's fun when they show who was at the game. I think it brings a little bit more to the atmosphere, brings a little bit more to what you're watching. But at the same time I think-," he said, adding that the league is probably trying to have fun with it only.
Meanwhile, the NFL issued a separate statement to People saying that the majority of its content remains focused on the games and the players.
