A photo of Madonna with a noticeably swollen face has sparked worry among her supporters.
This image is especially concerning as the 65-year-old is typically pictured with immaculate makeup and her trademark chiseled cheekbones.
The latest video that Madonna posted online had a lot of people doing double-takes. Her face appeared noticeably rounder, and the star chose to keep her look natural by preceding any makeup application.
In her latest video, it was evident that Madonna had significantly altered her appearance. Her eyebrows were bleached, and she had a remarkably full pout that caused many fans to express concern.
One fan remarked, "My goodness, what has happened to her?" Another added, "That looks uncomfortable!"
A well-respected plastic surgeon suggests that Madonna's recent change in appearance, a fuller face, could be attributed to her time spent in hospital in June.
The singer had been rushed there with a critical bacterial infection and was kept in the intensive care unit for several days.
In an interview with The Mirror, Reza Nassab noted: "The face and lips appear to have swelled up. People had noticed distinct alterations to her facial features earlier this year."
Her admission into the ICU recently resulted in a situation where edema or swelling could become an issue. This may be more prominent because the patient has newly been admitted to the hospital.
Reza warned those considering cosmetic surgery: "One should be completely aware of the possible risks or issues that may come up afterward. Before any procedure occurs, the patient will receive an evaluation to determine potential risk factors."
Going on, the doctor suggested Madonna may have had a facelift.
According to Amish Patel, an award-winning aesthetics practitioner, the puffiness in Madonna's face could result from an allergic reaction.
He explained: "Sometimes when a person undergoes some type of skin resurfacing or harsh chemical face peel, it can cause post-treatment swelling while they are healing."
Amish expressed that Madonna's change in look probably isn't caused by fillers. He went on to say, "A face filled with too much filler, or 'pillow face,' is a term used to describe celebrities who have overfilled their faces a few years ago and generally has some shading on the cheeks, but this particular picture doesn't show any."
