'Burlesque' The Musical Coming To Broadway?
According to Entertainment Weekly, "Burlesque: The Musical" is coming to town in the coming years. Steve Antin, the director of the hit 2010 film, confirms the new adaptation.
"Yes the stage musical adaptation is happening," Antin told the outlet exclusively. "Very exciting."
Turns out, Christina Aguilera, the lead on the 2010 film will serve as the stage musical's executive producer. Steve Antin will write the musical, including songs from Academy Award icon Diane Warren, Sia, Todrick Hall, Jess Foley, and Aguilera herself.
However, it won't be coming to Broadway anytime soon as the outlet reported that it is expected to debut in the United Kingdom, possibly on the West End.
Antin hinted at the show's continuation in 2020, saying that it was a "re-imagination."
"It morphs what's best about TV, Broadway, film, and digital entertainment. It's a hybrid television event/series taking the movie to the next level," he told Entertainment Weekly at the time, but on another platform.
As of this writing, Aguilera, Cher, and even Warren have yet to issue their statements on the highly-reported revival of the 2010 film onstage.
