Doja Cat has been heavily described by many to be an unpredictable artist. From confusing the media about what her album genre was all along, she then continued to have everyone on edge about the album's title.
Now, she finally explains why she decided to do it.
Why Did Doja Cat Change Her Album Title From 'Hellmouth' To 'Scarlet'?
In a candid interview on "Hot Ones," the "Agora Hills" rapper revealed the reason why she changed the album title from "Hellmouth" to "Scarlet."
"I don't care about the meaning being so deep, as much as the word being a cool word," she explained. "I just like good words. I thought Hellmouth was cool ... it's like the gates of hell. But that felt so aggressive to me after a while, and I don't know if I even like it anymore."

Notably, Time Magazine reported that Doja Cat's newest album, now titled "Scarlet," was then titled "Hellmouth." The announcement back then came after a lot of confusion as Doja kept on changing what the theme of the album would be.
"I change my mind constantly," she confirmed. "And Scarlet felt like the right thing to do, 'cause it's kind of an ode to Hot Pink. I did the name of a color, but it's not really; you think of [Scarlett] as someone's first name, and not as a color. That was kind of the twist to it. And also red is just a passionate shade." Eventually, she settled on "Scarlet."
Aside from her album title, Doja Cat also had to go through a particular change in her fashion sense, specifically her shaved hair.
"What I like most about it, I can focus on what I'm wearing and less about my hair," she said while gasping for air as she munched on a spicy chicken wing. "Hair, it's a whole other world. It's like, f-k that. I can just wear a cute outfit and be bald. There's hella bad b-hes that are bald in this world."
Doja Cat 'Scarlet' Billboard 200
Despite being one of the most highly-anticipated albums of 2023, Doja Cat's "Scarlet," only landed on the No. 4 spot on the Billboard 200 albums chart.
For many of her fans, this was quite a low debut, considering her fame and impact on streaming. It birthed the singles, "Paint The Town Red," "Attention," "Monster," and "Agora Hills."
