Madonna spoke candidly about her near-fatal hospitalization and revealed that she thought she would not make it alive.
On Saturday, October 14, Madonna finally met thousands of fans at the O2 Arena stop of her Celebration Tour. Her London, England, performance was not only full of her hit songs but also stories about her life - including her near-fatal hospitalization.
Madonna Looks Back at Health Scare
During the opening night of the Celebration Tour (via OK! Magazine), Madonna opened up about how she thought that her five-day hospitalization might kill her due to the bacterial infection she contracted.
"I didn't think I was gonna make it," she said. "I forgot five days of my life - or death, I didn't really know where I was."
The 65-year-old "Back That Up To the Beat" hitmaker revealed that her children - Stella, Estere, Lourdes, Rocco, David and Mercy - played a huge role in her recovery since they always "saved" her every time and she had to survive for them.
Madonna's hospitalization was confirmed by her manager Guy Oseary, who said that she was admitted to an ICU, where she was intubated due to the effects of her bacterial infection. She was initially found unresponsive at home before she was rushed to a medical facility.
Before the confirmation of her recovery, there were rumors and speculations that she was dying and "clinically brain dead." News outlets cited the title, "THIS IS THE END MADONNA CLINICALLY BRAIN DEAD...With No Chance of Recovery," and dismissed the claims.
The false report featured an article allegedly published by TMZ. The AP News did a fact-check and confirmed that the news outlet did not post it.
"AP'S ASSESSMENT: False," the news agency said. "An image of the headline is fabricated, TMZ confirmed, and the pop superstar released a statement on Instagram this week saying she's 'on the road to recovery' after being hospitalized for a 'serious bacterial infection.'"
Madonna's First Night of Celebration Tour
During the first night, Madonna also suffered a mishap after a problem with the music happened four songs into the show.
She took her time to tell stories about her life while waiting for it to get fixed.
Madonna performed some of her hit songs, including "Like a Prayer," "Hung Up," "Vogue," "Get Into the Groove," "Blond Ambition," "Justify My Love" and "La Isla Bonita," to name a few.
