The famed drummer of Motley Crue recently appeared in an episode of the "Club Random With Bill Maher" podcast where he recalled his time being an alcoholic as well as celebrating his first year being sober.

The day prior to the interview, the musician said he celebrated his sobriety anniversary, to which the host jokingly replied: "What's there to celebrate?"

Lee then jokingly added that whenever he made it an entire year without alcohol, he's so stoked that he celebrates.

He then looked back at his early days in the industry during the 80s, saying he drank excessive amounts of alcohol, which is not healthy for an average person's body.

"Alcohol's such a f***** weird one, because... F***! It's just - it's easy to fall in love with, the way it makes you feel, the way it makes you relax," he said. (via Loudwire)

He then revealed that back in the day, there was a point wherein he would drink "two gallons of vodka" on a daily basis.

Tommy Lee Changed for the Better With Motley Crue Bandmates

The host was surprised about Tommy Lee's confession, to which the musician replied that it was his drinking habit for a long time in the past and it came to a point where his liver was barely functioning.

He and his Motley Crue bandmates also used to take "pound a bottle of Jack" then go out for the night and then sleep for a long time afterward.

Fortunately, Lee was able to turn his life back around as the entire band became self-aware of their wrongdoings so they attempted to live a healthier life by the late 80s.

He explained that at the time, his bandmates and he decided to change for the better because things were starting to get "ridiculous."

Tommy Lee's Sobriety Journey Was Not Easy

Tommy Lee later became serious with his story as he admitted that it was not easy to become sober from alcohol as there was a time in his recovery journey when he was already sober for four years only to drink again.

He told the host that he underwent some phases in his life where he wanted to be different, but it would change that he didn't want to live like that anymore.

Even though he was excessive when it came to drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes, Tommy Lee was surprised that his doctor told him that he was "good" after all the scans that were done on his body.
