Jared Leto took the music promotions to the next level.
On Thursday, November 9, Leto surprised everyone when he climbed the Empire State Building while wearing a jumpsuit. He became the first person to legally scale the Manhattan landmark as part of his promotional stunt.
Why Did Jared Leto Climb the Empire State Building?
According to Leto, he climbed the building to announce the upcoming 30 Seconds to Mars' 2024 Seasons world tour in support of the band's album, "It's The End Of The World But It's A Beautiful Day."
He soon appeared in an interview with Today to share his experience ahead of his band's tour.
"I was more excited than nervous to tell you the truth," Leto said afterward. "But I have to be honest, it was very, very hard. It was a lot harder than I thought it would be. Just the endurance that it took, the stamina that it took, and it was very sharp."
The "Closer to the Edge" singer said his hands were sliced up while making the attempt.
Leto started his climb on the 86th floor of the building and ended on the 104th floor, which is 1,300 feet off the ground.
Speaking about his inspiration for the move, Leto spoke about wanting to become an artist when he was a kid and seeing the Empire State Building as a symbol for him.
Before his ascend, he declared that he always had a fascination with the landmark since he was a kid.
"Not sure if it was Guinness World Records, King Kong, but something about this iconic structure always captured my imagination. Built in just 13 short months, in one of the greatest cities in the world, it has always been a powerful symbol to me of all the possibilities in life," he went on.
