It has been decades since KISS was established by original members Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Ace Frehley, and Peter Criss. Now that the band is nearing the completion of their final tour ever before their retirement, Simmons is open to having fresh faces that will represent the group and replace them.
According to Loudwire, the band is set to retire and perform for the last time at the last show of their "End of the Road Tour" at Madison Square Gardin this coming December 2, 2023.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the bassist revealed that he and his bandmates wanted to hand the "baton" and welcome a new generation of musicians to continue their legacy and would continue using KISS.
The possible reason why the group continues to perform is because Simmons said he and his bandmates wanted to "go out" while they are still on top and being introduced as "the hottest" band on the planet.
However, there will come a time when those words won't matter anymore because they can't perform due to their age and physical aspects.
KISS to Welcome a New Generation of Musicians to Perform Under Their Name
Regarding the idea of completely new faces and new generation performing under their name, the bassist said: "I'm totally open to that idea. Why not pass the baton, pass the crown to four new, young people who are deserving?"
As of this writing, the band has not shared more information about the matter, they also didn't reveal if they already chose the musicians that would take over their places.
He expressed similar sentiments about retirement in an interview with The Sunday Project, saying Mother Nature will take over regardless of their plans.
Simmons noted that when performers reached a certain age, they should have a dignity and pride as well as love and admiration to their supporters when it's time to close the curtains.
Will KISS Disband After Retirement
The recent interview comes a few months after told the outlet that the final show would surely be their last as there has been an ongoing joke that the band has been touring for their farewell concerts but has yet to stop playing for fans.
However, even though they will retire, the KISS brand will continue to thrive as fans can still enjoy the band in different ways. Simmons revealed that there will be traveling shows around the world where actors and musicians would play as them.
