Over the past day, Teyana Taylor and her husband Iman Shumpert made headlines as reports about their divorce made rounds online. It was noted in the legal documents that there were a lot of reasons why the musician decided to be legally separated from her NBA athlete partner.

According to Page Six, the couple first met at a party in 2011. The singer admitted in an interview with Wendy Williams that she didn't like the basketball star at first because he was young and doing a lot.
At the time, he didn't have a great impression because Taylor described him as someone who was drunk and without a t-shirt on.
Years later, their romance blossomed when Taylor helped Shumpert recover from knee surgery, they later confirmed their relationship in 2014 when they shared photos together on Instagram and even attended the BET Hip Hop Awards that year for the first time as lovers.

In 2015, the couple shocked the world as they announced their pregnancy and engagement with their followers.
"I couldn't be happier than to share my first child with the woman I intended to have my family with," Shumpert wrote on social media.
The NBA star was reportedly the one who delivered the baby himself as Taylor gave birth in their bathroom.
"Her blueprint will be unmatched. Welcome Iman Tayla Shumpert Jr. Mommy carried you. Daddy delivered you," she wrote online.
In 2016, they got married and it all happened in front of the bathroom where their first baby was born. In 2020, they announced that they were expecting a baby again.

In 2023, Taylor took to social media to announce that he and Shumpert had been separated for a while and she noted that infidelity wasn't the reason why they decided to split.
She told her followers that they are still "the best of friends" and a great team in raising their two children.
More recently, it has been confirmed that Taylor is filing for divorce and seeking custody of their two children as she alleged that the NBA athlete had been jealous, emotionally abusive, and insecure about her success.
Legal documents also showed that Shumpert treated his wife "cruelly and displaying extreme narcissistic behavior throughout the majority of their marriage."
