Nicki Minaj 'Pink Friday 2' Critics Review
According to Billboard, Minaj has cemented herself as an "indispensable voice in modern hip-hop's extended universe." The iconic sequel to 2010's Grammy-nominated "Pink Friday" illustrated how far the modern Queen of Rap has evolved "stylistically and thematically" while also maintaining that she "has still rap circles around her competition."
Among the main standouts, as per the publication, was its opening track, "Are You Gone Already," a heartwrenching track that sampled Billie Eilish's "When The Party's Over," which also became an introspective record that talks about how Papa Bear, her son, did not get a chance to meet her late father.
Hypebeast noted that "Pink Friday 2" is a "testament to Minaj's power that catapulted her into the spotlight over a decade ago."
Notably, Nicki Minaj has inspired generations of female rappers including Doja Cat, Lizzo, Megan Thee Stallion, Latto, Cardi B, Coi Leray, and even Ice Spice. "Pink Friday," her debut album, has been considered one of the most iconic albums in rap history, often hailed as one of the albums in the rap bible, even by male rappers.
"Minaj is able to concoct the right balance and formula of wordplay, cadence and all-around attitude in this hard-hitting record, further solidifing her legacy and impact," the publication described the MTV Video Music Awards Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Awardee.
Forbes said that the album acted as a "culmination of Minaj's entire career up until this point" while also serving as a reminder of her accomplishments across various genres - making it an "apt reintroduction to the multifaceted rapper many fell in love with over a decade ago."
As of this writing, Nicki Minaj has hinted that "Pink Friday 2" is not yet done, noting that she has yet to release more editions of some of the tracks and four new tracks before the weekends.
