The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) has finally announced its list of nominees for the 2024 Golden Globe Awards!
While plenty of its nominees are dedicated to actors and actresses in film and television, many of its nominees this year also have careers in music! (via Entertainment Weekly)
Let's take a deep dive into who was nominated for the 2024 Golden Globe Awards!
Golden Globe Awards Nominations 2024: Singers, Musicians
On the film side, Broadway star and "American Idol" winner Fantasia Barrino earned her first Golden Globe nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy for the outstanding reprisal of her role in the film adaptation of "The Color Purple" musical. Barrino famously played the role on Broadway in 2007.
Also coming from the same film, "The Color Purple," Danielle Brooks also earned her very first Golden Globes nomination for reprising her role Sofia in the film adaptation. She played Sofia on the musical revival in 2015 where she earned a Tony Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
Over on the television side, Selena Gomez earned her second consecutive Golden Globes nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Musical or Comedy for "Only Murders in the Building." Steve Martin and Martin Short were also both nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Musical or Comedy for their role in the said television series.
The great Meryl Streep was also nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role on Television as a newcomer Loretta Dunkin. With her new nomination, she is now the most nominated actress on the Golden Globe Awards. She has earned a total of 33 nominations, including this one. (via The Hollywood Reporter)
So far, she has earned nine Golden Globes in her career, but it was only her second time being nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role on Television. She was nominated last year for "Big Little Lies" and has yet to win an award in the said category.
Sam Claflin and Riley Keough, both vocalists on the Amazon Prime musical drama "Daisy Jones & The Six," also nabbed respective nominations for Best Performance by an Actor and Actress in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television.
On the other hand, Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, FINNEAS, Bruce Springsteen, Jack Black, and Lenny Kravitz were all nominated for Best Original Song.
