Dave Grohl was tapped to be part of a Boygenius album, but something unexpected happened.
The legendary Foo Fighters frontman has been part of many collaborations over the past few years. Although he is a successful band member and a soloist, he expands his empire by sharing his music with others.
However, he was not able to create an album with Boygenius due to an unusual reason.
Dave Grohl Missed Boygenius Collaboration
Speaking in a recent discussion with NME, Phoebe Bridgers looked back at that time and disclosed why Grohl did not make it to the studio.
"There was this missed connection where Dave was actually going to come to the studio and play on [the record]. Then he slept through it or whatever, and we didn't end up meeting," she shared. "So it was actually kind of a perfect, full-circle moment of having him play on that song because we knew we wanted the drums to be crazy on that."
Years later, Grohl finally joined Bridgers, Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker at the Hollywood Bowl on Halloween. According to Bridgers, they established a connection with the iconic drummer after meeting backstage at a Billie Eilish show.
The collaborators dominated the Halloween stage, with Grohl appearing with a skeleton face paint as he rocked his drum set.
Bridgers shared the story after Boygenius received nominations for the 2024 Grammy Awards: Best Alternative Rock Performance for "Cool About It," Album of the Year, Best Alternative Album, Record of the Year, Best Rock Song, and Best Rock Performance.
Dave Grohl Sparks New Collaboration Rumor
On November 15, rumors that Anthrax and Grohl would likely release a project together emerged. The band's official Instagram page hinted at the possibility by sharing a photo of the band members and the drummer at Studio 606.
"New album is going to be awesome. #FooThrax," the caption read.
It also shared a video of Grohl playing his kit, with the hashtags seemingly confirming the collaboration.
Anthrax previously confirmed it had been working with producer Jay Ruston for the album. Scott Ian also told Eddie Trunk on "The Eddie Trunk Podcast" that he had already finished the nine songs' guitars.
"Certainly of the nine [songs] we've tracked so far, and, of course, the rough kind of demos we have of some of the stuff we haven't tracked with drums yet, from a riff point of view, it's definitely - I mean it's riffs with all capital letters," Ian said. "Like if you were going to write, you would write 'riffs' in all capitals with an exclamation point."
