Nicki Minaj is cementing her place at the top as the best female rapper of this generation as she successfully debuts "Pink Friday 2" atop the Billboard 200 chart.
Despite her recent controversy with Billboard, Minaj's fans, the Barbz, couldn't be happier as they celebrated her arrival at the summit. In turn, Minaj has successfully shattered various records as a female rap royalty.
Nicki Minaj 'Pink Friday 2' Billboard 200
Nicki Minaj debuted with 228,000 album-equivalent units, the same numbers that Hits Daily Double projected last weekend. According to Minaj, the numbers that were recently released were already slashed because of Billboard's apparent rule change. (via Billboard)
Minaj has accused Billboard of suddenly informing her that 100,000 of the sales will be slashed from her debut numbers because she asked her fans to post proof of their album purchase. Billboard has yet to react on this issue.
Out of the 228,00 album units, 92,000 were physical album sales. Among those 92,000, 25,000 were vinyl copies, which makes this week the largest week for a rap album by a woman in Luminate history (since 1991).
On the other hand, Minaj's "Pink Friday 2" was also powered by streaming, as it was comprised of 129,000 units or 169.87 million official streams on the week of tracking.
Notably, Nicki Minaj cemented herself as the Queen of Rap and Hip-Hop as she became the first female rapper in music history to score a No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 in two different decades.
"Pink Friday" opened at 375,000 units at No. 1 in 2010 while "Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded" launched at 253,000 units at No. 1 in 2012. "Pink Friday 2," now marks Minaj's third No. 1 album on the top - making her the only female rapper with the most No. 1 albums atop.
Nicki Minaj 'Pink Friday 2' Billboard Controversy
Last week, Nicki Minaj pounded on Billboard for allegedly slashing her final debut numbers with 100,000.
"It's at 300 but once they filter out 100K, you'll be none the fkng wiser," Minaj tweeted, saying that she's being "punished" for "not signing a 360; Making great music; Having great fans; And for not leaving the game so that their new Nicki's (who signed 360 deals) can be propped up to look as tho they are a lot more successful than they rlly are."
