Nicki Minaj - 'Anaconda'
Nicki Minaj's "Anaconda" might be considered as a cultural reset by most people. Released in August 2014, this major bop was from her album "The Pink Print" under Young Money Entertainment and Cash Money Records.
Produced by Polow da Don, Da Internz, and DJ Spydr, the song became the female rapper's highest-charting single at the time.
In addition, its music video was also successful as it was able to garner 19.6 million views on its first day of release. Later on, Nicki Minaj held the record for having the first music video as a female rap artist to hit 1 billion views.
One of Minaj's most major moments was performing the track at the VMAs.
Avicii - 'The Nights'
Avicii was one of the most in-demand DJs during the 2010s and among his famous catalog of EDM music was "The Nights" released in December 2014.
The song features his signature beats mixed with the vocals of Nicholas Furlong. It peaked at number six on the UK singles chart and number one on the UK Dance chart.
Unfortunately, Avicii passed away in April 2018.
Ariana Grande Feat. Zedd - 'Break Free'
When asked what song defined 2014, many people would say "Break Free" by Ariana Grande featuring Zedd would be one of their choices.
Released in July 2014, the track was part of Grande's album "My Everything." Throughout the years, fans have continued to play the track and stream it online, which led to it receiving the triple Platinum certification by the RIAA.
As of 2018, it amassed over 1.9 million sales in the United States alone. Ariana Grande was successful as this song became her seventh single to sell over a million copies.
Sia - 'Chandelier'
There was a time over a decade ago when Sia's "Chandelier" took over almost all radio stations. The musician released the single under her album "1000 Forms of Fear."
Although it was catchy, it has a dark backstory because the song revolved around the topic of alcoholism, but later on would release the pain and abandon that feeling.
It became a top hit in different countries and even received four nominations from the Grammy Awards.
