On Sunday, September 7, 2014, Lady Antebellum was scheduled to play a show at the Allegan County Fair in Michigan when a phone call changed the entire sequence of events. Dave Haywood's wife, Kelli, had been taken to the hospital and she was in labor. The show was, understandably cancelled and Dave made it to Kelli's side in time to be there to welcome his son, Cash Van Haywood, into the world. Born a little earlier than expected, Cash weighed a healthy 7 pounds and was 19 inches long.
Dave made the big announcement on the band's twitter, saying, "So happy to have a healthy baby boy here with us! Cash Van Haywood was born last night, Mom & Dad are doing great and couldn't be happier!"
People reported that Cash comes from Kelli’s maiden name (Cashiola) and Van is Dave’s father’s name. What a fitting and perfect name for their first child.
The two new parents have been preparing for the big day for the last few months. "We’ve been trying to read and prepare and talk and think through every scenario for the delivery and the labor and how we want to try to be as parents," Haywood told People during an interview last month. “We know when the moment happens, all hell is going to break loose. Dave even learned diapering skills with the help of Eisele Kaye, bandmate Hillary Scott‘s 13-month-old daughter. Since he had never changed a diaper before, his bandmates went easy on him as he tried to figure out where the velcro went.
Luckily (and because a lot of planning went into the timing), Dave will have nearly three full weeks at home to enjoy his new baby and help his wife before the band's next show, which is in the Dominican Republic on September 28th. The following Tuesday, the hectic pace will step up when 747 drops.
