Sophie Ellis-Bextor is experiencing a music resurgence right before her eyes. Her 2001 dance anthem, "Murder On The Dance Floor" finally debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart 23 years after its release.

Emerald Fennell's "Saltburn" featured "Murder On The Dancefloor" in the closing scene of the film, where Barry Keoghan danced gleefully on the Saltburn mansion.

According to Luminate/Billboard, "Murder On The Dancefloor" officially debuted at No. 98 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts with 3.9 million streams in the United States and 2,000 downloads. It saw a 131% rise in streaming and a 92% increase in downloads.

Its virality on Twitter and TikTok was instrumental on the song's resurgence. The publication noted that it has been used in over 300,000 TikTok videos and around 70,000 videos on Instagram

Even Sophia Ellis-Bextor made a video of herself dancing to the song, much like how Barry Keoghan did at the end of the film.

As expected, the scene made waves on social media, as it highlighted the questionable triumph of Keoghan's character, and because of the innate eccentricity and dynamism of the film.

Speaking to People Magazine about the usage of the song in the film, Ellis-Bextor wasn't actually sure how it would be used and fit into the story.

"I didn't really know exactly how it would play in terms of the role it was in the movie until I saw it at the screening, but I absolutely loved it," she confessed. "I think it's such a clever, funny, smart film. I really enjoyed it."

Ellis-Bextor had met Keoghan after watching the film and said that they had a "giggle" talking about it.

"I mean, he's never going to be able to hear that in the same way again," she happily gushed. "And every time he's out and that comes on, people are going to think he's going to strip off!"
