Elton John is the 19th person in the world to achieve EGOT status.
According to reports, the 76-year-old performer won Best Variety Special Live at the 2024 Emmy Awards for his blockbuster release, "Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium."
"I am not Elton John, sadly he had a knee op. He's absolutely fine but wanted to send his love and thanks to the Television Academy for this incredible award," said producer Ben Winston, who collected the award along with the "Rocket Man" singer's husband, David Furnish.
John is currently in the hospital recovering from a knee surgery, which is why the pair accepted the award on his behalf.
"We knew this show would be historic because it was going to be Elton's last ever show in North America on tour. We knew it would be historic because it was Disney's first live global stream."
"We didn't know it would be historic because it was going to win a man, who has created the soundtrack to our lives, he's done so much great for society, who is all of our hero. We didn't know it would win him an EGOT," Winston noted.
Elton John Earns First Emmy Award
This is John's first Emmy Award, but it was only a matter of time since he already earned five Grammys, two Oscars for "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" from "The Lion King" and "(I'm Gonna) Love Me Again" from "Rocketman," and a Tony.
Before venturing to film and live shows, John was best known for his music. According to reports, he holds the record for best-selling physical single for his 1997 hit "Candle in the Wind," which sold 33 million copies.
He also recently ended his touring career with the "Farewell Yellow Brick Road" tour, his 49th tour.
