The Songwriters Hall of Fame has announced the Class of 2024 inductees and three "non-performing" songwriters are listed along with R.E.M. and Steely Dan.

Notably, there were some changes in the said category as there are only two acts inducted into the "performing" songwriters category.

According to Billboard, the 2024 Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Gala will be held on Jun. 13, 2024, at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.

The publication noted that usually, there are three inductees in each category - the non-performing and performing categories. However, this year, the performing categories only inducted two acts.

Apparently, the other supposed inductee was deferred because they would be absent from the induction ceremony; meaning they would only be inducted and announced on the same year they would attend.

"Deferred inductees are considered inductees the year they are officially inducted," Songwriters Hall of Fame Chief Executive Office Linda Moran said in a statement. "To date, we have not had many, but Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora were two who had to defer and were inducted two years later [in 2009]."

Eligible songwriters must have a notable catalog of songs that qualify within the Hall's guidelines and their first commercial song must have been released 20 years ago.

"We are ... very proud that we are continually recognizing some of the culturally most important songwriters of all time and that the 2024 slate represents not just iconic songs but also diversity and unity across genres, ethnicity and gender, songwriters who have enriched our lives and literally enriched music and the lives of billions of listeners all over the world," Songwriters Hall of Fame President Nile Rodgers said.
