Five years after Mac Miller's death, the famed rapper and record producer remains in everyone's hearts.
Mac Miller, born Malcolm James McCormick, received heartfelt messages from his fans on what would have been his 32nd birthday. At the same time, the world revisited his final days and mourned the tragic loss.
Mac Miller's Cause of Death Revealed: What Happened?
On September 7, 2018, authorities responded to Mac Miller's Fernando Valley home after receiving a call from his personal assistant and sober coach, who reportedly discovered his body moments before the call.
The Los Angeles County Coroner's Office revealed in its autopsy report released on November 5, 2018, that the assistant last saw Mac Miller at 10:30 p.m. on September 6. The "Self Care" reportedly called his mother that night before he was found dead the next morning. A bottle of alcohol and prescription pills were found on the scene; the authorities also detected fentanyl, cocaine and alcohol in his system.
The report disclosed that a powder white substance was discovered, as well.
A month after his passing, the coroner's office said he died of an accidental overdose.
"Malcom McCormick, known and adored by fans as Mac Miller, has tragically passed away at the age of 26," his family wrote in a statement. "He was a bright light in this world for his family, friends, and fans. There are no further details available as to the cause of his death. Thank you for your prayers. Please respect the family's privacy at this time."
He had been open about his struggles with drug abuse, including in his 2015 interview with Billboard.
At that time, he admitted to doing drugs before his debut and that his fear of death pushed him to make all the music he could. That way, Mac Miller could have "albums and albums" once he passed.
Mac Miller's cause of death resurfaced as his fans and supporters marked his what would have been 32nd birthday.
One said, "Happy Birthday Mac Miller. words can't describe how much the world misses you."
"Everyone is legally obligated to listen to Mac Miller today. I don't make the rules," another wrote.
"Happy birthday to my brother, every year that passes it's almost harder to believe that you're not here with us anymore but your memory lives on eternally through all who love you! MostDope forever, Mac Miller forever," a third person wrote.
