Joan Baez is launching an 18-city North American tour with a concert celebrating the legendary folk singer-songwriter and social activist's 75th birthday and 55 year-long career. The folk pioneer has announced that she's added Paul Simon and Mavis Staples to the stacked lineup of special guests joining her on stage at New York City's Beacon Theatre on January 27th. -

Legendary folk singer-songwriter and social activist Joan Baez is about to turn 75. To celebrate her over 55 year-long career as a musician, she's throwing a star-studded birthday concert at the historic Beacon Theatre on January 27th. Special guests joining Baez on stage include Jackson Browne, Emmylou Harris, the Indigo Girls, Damien Rice, David Bromberg, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Judy Collins and Nano Stern; more performers are to be announced as the date nears. -

Given 50 years to think about it, and excellent albums such as Highway 61 Revisited as a result, the folks at Newport are feeling a bit more generous about what is now considered one of the most iconic live appearances of all time. It certainly goes down as the most momentous concert in Dylan's career, but don't think that he hasn't played a few other "big" shows in a career that stretches nearly 60 years.
