How much can you tell about someone based on the music they listen to? Well, if you believe one study from SeatSmart, you may come away thinking that everyone who listens to music is an idiot, based on the average reading level required to comprehend the lyrics of popular songs. The blog comprised its surprising findings by gathering every song from the last 10 years that has spent three or more weeks atop the pop, country, rock or hip-hop charts and then come up with an average reading level for each. The results are bad all around. -
The Charts and Afghanistan 2001: Alicia Keys, Jay Z and Nickelback
Memorial Day 2015 bears a special significance for two reasons: More importantly, it's the first time in 14 years that the holiday has been celebrated with no American troops involved in a "major ground war," and it's also the 25th anniversary of the first invasion of Iraq during the Gulf War. We at Music Times can do little but throw out our thanks to those who have served and those who currently serve in the United States military, but we wanted to check out what the Billboard charts looked like on both dates, August 2, 1991 and October 7, 2001, the dates when Americans last became embroiled in foreign combat. It features the rise of Alicia Keys, Jay Z and Nickelback. -
Nickelback's Ryan Peake on Dodging Wikipedia, Building 'Circles of Doom' and Battling U2 for Most Loathed
Nickelback is one of the biggest rock bands of the 21st Century, yet guitarist Ryan Peake—who's been with the band for the entirety of its run—doesn't have a Wikipedia page. Music Times spoke to Peake as his band tours in support of its new album, No Fixed Address, so that future generations of reporters won't have to work as hard as we did to research this guy. Peake discussed amped-up stage modifications, the potential for bluegrass on the band's next album, and whether Nickelback can rival U2's iTunes release in terms of generating hate for the group. -
Podcaster Listening to Nickelback Discography for One Week Straight to Raise Funds for Clean Water Charity; How Many Albums Is That?
Referring to Nickelback as the worst band in the universe has kind of become clichéd but we'll give Relevant podcaster Jesse Carey a break because the theme plays into a charity event he's staging. The host will listen to the band for 168 consecutive hours, a week, to raise money for Water, a charity that works to bring clean H2O to areas around the world that are lacking otherwise. -
One Direction Log Year's Second Highest Sales Week with 'Four,' Taylor Swift Stays Strong with '1989,' and Christmas Albums Rise
It took another super-fan phenom to take Taylor Swift from the top spot on the Billboard 200: One Direction gained the no. 1 position with its new album Four, which sold 387,000 copies. Despite being the second highest sales week of the year (which it took from Swift's second week), the sales for the album were lower than analysts expected. -

Metallica Hated More Than Nickelback? James Hetfield Thinks He Gets More Negative Feedback
Rock stars are insecure people, just like us. And when you're the lead singer of Nickelback — a band that's incited rock-throwing mayhem and a petition to keep them from playing one of the world's premier cities thanks to their alleged awfulness — you're probably very insecure. -

Will a Band-Aid Baby Save Avril Lavigne's Marriage to Chad Kroeger?
It has been a while since we last talked about Avril Lavigne's marriage to Chad Kroeger, hasn't it? The musical couple celebrated their first anniversary last July, but then almost immediately things seemed to go downhill for the couple. Lavigne's latest studio album was deemed a flop and she reportedly blamed Kroeger because he produced her on it. It seems getting past that resentment is proving difficult for Lavigne, and sources say the couple still has not found themselves on better footing yet.According to a report from E! News:"Avril's friends are encouraging her to try and work it out. They don't like Chad, but she's already been through one painful divorce and they don't want to see her going through another unless there's no other option. Also, she and Chad haven't been married that long so her friends want her to make sure she's given it every chance before pulling the plug. Her career isn't in the best place and she's trying to figure out what she wants for her future. She's trying to write music and she paints, but her life is in limbo. Motherhood is something she really wants for herself. So this thing with Chad, it's going to go one of two ways. Either they're going to get rid of each other or there's a shot they might try to have a baby to save the marriage. My bet is they end up splitting."Uh-oh — a band-aid baby to try and save a relationship usually seems to have the opposite effect on a couple. We have heard about so many celebrity couples that thought that maybe things would improve if they started a family, but in the end it just gives them one more thing to disagree on: parenting. -

Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger Divorce Rumors Swirl After She Blames Him For Her Last Album's Lousy Sales
There have been rumblings for awhile now that things aren't great in the marriage of Avril Lavigne and Nickelback front man Chad Kroeger. The couple quietly swapped vows only 14 months ago and already sources close to them say that the fighting has reached epic proportions. One major bone of contention seems to be Avril's 5th studio album which was produced by her husband. The self-titled effort under-performed and apparently the 29-year old singer has placed the blame on Chad.
