• Of Montreal Share New Song 'Empyrean Abattoir' from New Album 'Aureate Gloom' [LISTEN]

    Georgia psych-pop crew Of Montreal have shared a new track titled "Empyrean Abattoir" from their upcoming album "Aureate Gloom," which you can check out below. The song is one of the best things Of Montreal have put out in years, starting with a vaguely mournful disco/post-punk groove but eventually shifting into a snottier punk jam, reminiscent of David Bowie's early 1970s work, such as "Queen Bitch."     Psych-pop band Of Montreal have announced their next studio album Aureate Gloom (that's the album cover up above), which will be their 13th overall and their first since 2013's country-flavored Lousy With Sylvianbriar. According to an interview with Stereogum, frontman Kevin Barnes said that the album was inspired by the "mid to late '70s music scene in New York," though if you were expecting punk, the disco-tinged lead single "Bassem Sabry" would beg to differ. The album is set for release on March 3 through Polyvinyl.
