The indie world was crushed in August when The Civil Wars disbanded. The news came a few years after the duo of John Paul White and Joy Williams went on hiatus, making the breakup official and killing hopes of a new album. It may not be The Civil Wars, but Williams has announced a new solo effort titled 'Venus' that will drop this summer. She shared the lead single, "Woman (Oh Mama)," as well. -

10 Bands That Broke Up In 2014: Danity Kane, The Allman Brothers Band, Death Grips, And More
Unless you're the Rolling Stones, no band can last forever, and in 2014 we lost plenty of wonderful bands. Some split up due to internal differences, while others felt like they had done all they could do artistically. Here are 10 bands that broke up in 2014. -
The Civil Wars Break Up: Joy Williams and John Paul White Announce Split with New Song 'You Are My Sunshine' [LISTEN]
Civil Wars rarely end in a mutual peaceful resolution, and GRAMMY winning folk duo The Civil Wars are no different. After announcing an "indefinite hiatus" last year, today (Aug. 5), the Joy Williams and John Paul White officially announced that The Civil Wars are broken up for good... but not before releasing one final new song. -
The Civil Wars Minus John Paul White = Joy Williams - Part III

The Civil Wars' John Paul White apologizes after Grammy acceptance speech after omitting Joy Williams
Even though folk-country duo The Civil Wars may not be a band anymore, that doesn't mean John Paul White and Joy Williams have stopped racking up awards. In 2013, The Civil Wars released its second (and likely final) eponymous album, spawning several highly regarded singles. Last night (Jan. 26), that album spawned "From The Valley," for which White and Williams won their fourth Grammy award, but the golden gramophone has not come without some drama. -
Kacey Musgraves wins awards, country music stars perform at 2014 Grammys [VIDEOS]
Even though Taylor Swift thought she did (and then didn't) take home Album of the Year last night at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards, the "biggest night in music" was still a huge celebratory fest for country music's most popular acts. Though the genre failed to take home any of the night's major awards, country was represented quite well with five (and a half) performances. -

Carolyn Menyes' 2013 Playlist: Bear's Den, Lady Gaga, Janelle Monae and More
Music Times, like so many other music publications, was looking to publish a "Best of 2013" playlist. We met to discuss what such a playlist should include, and that's where we ran into trouble. We couldn't agree. Sometimes two of us just couldn't agree on whether the performer was amazing or terrible, and even when we agreed they were amazing, we couldn't agree on what track was most representative of their work. -
Luke Bryan 'Crash My Party' Debuts As Third-Best Selling Album of 2013, Best Selling Country Debut Since 2004
The big winner this week on the Billboard Charts was country star Luke Bryan, whose album "Crash My Party" topped the Billboard 200 and sold nearly 528,000 copies. It's the third best-selling week for any album so far during 2013, trailing only Justin Timberlake's "The 20/20 Experience" (968,000 copies) and Jay Z's "Magna Carta...Holy Grail" (slightly more than 528,000) for one-week sales. Bryan has an advantage for the year on Jay however; his EP "Spring Break...Here To Party" also topped the Billboard 200 earlier in the year. -
The Civil Wars Top Billboard Album Sales Chart, But Robin Thicke Still Dominates Singles Chart With 'Blurred Lines'
Based on the content of the album "The Civil Wars" and what we've read in the press, we would guess that The Civil Wars are not the happiest of people at the moment. Hopefully the first-week album sales of the album will help them feel at least a little bit better. -
