Selena Gomez talked about the value of friendship and her criteria for choosing who to befriend in an interview with TIME magazine.

The singer-actress did not hold back on her words when discussing friendship, declaring it might be a "cliché, but girls are mean."

"It's a very weird competition, being in the cool girls area - and then I'm just kind of like, there. I don't know where I'm meant to belong," Gomez added.

According to Gomez, her closest people don't "give two f**s" about her level of fame. The Golden Globe-nominated actress is known to be part of Taylor Swift's elite closest circle and is even considered one of Swift's closest friends in the industry.

However, according to Gomez, she has only three closest people to her - a casting director, a producer, and a real estate agent - none of whom seem to be the global pop star.

"I love having levelheaded people around that couldn't give two f-ks about what I do," Gomez confirmed before dabbling on the loneliness she usually experiences.

"You could be in a crowd of people and still feel alone. I still deal with that," the "Single Soon" singer admitted. "You can distract yourself and you can deny and deny all you want, but it'll still be there. I just allow myself to have those days."

When Gomez released her controversial Apple TV documentary My Mind and Me, she revealed that Swift is her only "real friend" in the entertainment industry.

"I never fit in with a cool group of girls that were celebrities," Gomez told Rolling Stone then. "My only friend in the industry really is Taylor [Swift], so I remember feeling like I didn't belong. I felt the presence of everyone around me living full lives. I had this position, and I was really happy, but ... was I?"

The two have gone on different dates and hung out with Swift's other friends, such as Cara Delavigne, Zöe Kravitz, Anya Taylor-Joy, and more.

Most notably, Gomez appeared in Swift's "Bad Blood" music video along with the latter's girlfriends, including Zendeya, Karlie Kloss, Hayley Williams, Ellie Goulding, Gigi Hadid, Hailee Steinfeld, and more.

When Gomez released My Mind and Me in 2022, Swift shared her pride for her close friend by sharing the Only Murders in the Building actress' documentary trailer.

"So proud of you @selenagomez Love you forever [teary eyed emoji]," Swift captioned her Instagram Story.
