Kate Hudson Details 'Cathartic' Songwriting Experience In Her Foray To Music

Kate Hudson is widely known for her acting prowess, earning her a Golden Globe Award and an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for "Almost Famous."

While Hudson delved into romantic comedies and dramatic roles, a significant portion of her acting career has been adjacent to music. She even sang in multiple songs in "Glee" for her guest-starring role in Season 4, and she was even nominated for a Golden Globe Award for her performance in "Music."

Now, Hudson has finally jumped into music full-time. She's currently writing and recording her debut album, and she details the life-changing experience she had gone through.

Kate Hudson's Songwriting Experience

Speaking to People Magazine, Kate Hudson discussed her upcoming new album and songwriting process.

"It's really fun. I'm really enjoying it. The writing process was the most important and cathartic for me," she described.

According to her, the songs she has since written are "very personal," and each song is a "different kind of expression" of herself.

"Every [song] will feel different, but obviously, I think, very authentic to me," she added.

In 2022, Hudson revealed that she would embark on her singing career - a dream come true for her for so long.

She finally released her debut single in January 2024, "Talk About Love," co-written by Linda Perry and Danny Fujikawa, her fiance.

"You only have one first single," she said about the record. "And I wanted it to be something delicious and sexy and all the things that I believe in I wanted it to be open and seeking, searching to find something powerful. But I also wanted the music to be the rock, the pop, the dance music and even a bit of the alternative records I love."

Kate Hudson Wanted To Sing Before 'Almost Famous'

When Hudson was starting, "Almost Famous" landed on her lap, and the movie was an instant success.

She initially expressed that she wanted to pursue a career in music because of her biological father, famed singer Bill Hudson, in an effort to connect with him because of their strained relationship.

"But later on I kind of rejected it because I was like, 'You know what?' As you do when you're dealing with daddy issues. I don't want to connect to that part because that's my dad. That's all dad," she told the "Table for Two with Bruce Bozzi" podcast. "If I put that out in the world and people didn't like it, it would destroy me."

In an interview with Jimmy Fallon, the 44-year-old actress furthered that she had been writing songs since she was 19.

"I've been writing music since I was 19, and I've never shared it, and so I thought that would be one of my great regrets," Hudson added. "I have no expectations. I just want to put a record out, and so I'm doing it, and I'm really excited."

As of this writing, the release date of Kate Hudson's album has yet to be announced.
