Willie Nelson is not retiring anytime soon.
The legendary country singer, 90, has been performing over the past years despite his health concerns. Even when he can barely walk and stand for long periods, the "Always on My Mind" singer reportedly does not have plans to stop soon.
Willie Nelson Is Not Retiring Despite Health Concerns
A concerned source recently spoke to National Enquirer (per RadarOnline.com) regarding the increasing concerns about Nelson's health. But despite those buzzes and his age, he reportedly remains unbothered by them as he wants to continue performing.
"His body aches and gives him pain, but he's determined to brave through it and keep on performing even if it kills him, which it just might do," Nelson's unidentified friend reportedly said. "It's no secret Willie's been plaything though the pain for years and shrugging off his medical emergencies and ailments, but the older he gets the harder it's becoming to stay mobile."
Nelson's age plays a huge role in preventing him from performing like he used to. Compared to the early days of his career, he now performs sitting down because of the pain in his legs that affects his capacity to stand for extended periods.
The "Help Me Make It Through the Night" singer celebrated his 90th birthday in 2023 during a two-day event at the Hollywood Bowl. His party was reportedly created as "a celebration of love - love of music, love of storytelling, and love of Willie Nelson... an American icon."
A Look at Willie Nelson's Health
Over the years, Nelson's health issues have continuously affected his shows and scheduled appearances.
In 2019, he began experiencing emphysema, a lung condition that caused him a breathing problem. He also constantly suffered from back problems and collapsed lungs.
Nelson once admitted to smoking marijuana and cannabis after giving up cigarettes and alcohol.
His spokeswoman, Elaine Schock, told The Associated Press that he still smokes because he "does what he wants when he wants" when it comes to smoking.
Amid the talks about his potential retirement, he informed Parade he would not be worried about his last days because he wanted to enjoy his days instead.
"The fact that I can't go out and sing for two hours, because that's the best exercise a guy can do, because his lungs are the biggest organs in his body when he's using them. It's kind of helping everything," he said of his secret to a good life.
