AC/DC original singer Dave Evans picked the best vocalist the band ever had - himself.
In 1973, Evans officially joined Malcolm, Larry Van Kriedt, Angus Young and Colin Burgess in the original lineup of AC/DC. He promoted under the band's banner with the release of their first official single, "Can I Sit Next to You, Girl" and its b-side "Rocking in the Parlour."
When he left in 1974, AC/DC continued their career and welcomed several vocalists through the years.
Who Is the Best AC/DC Vocalist?
Speaking with José Luis Mata Sanchez, Evans opened up about himself and the next AC/DC vocalists to determine who was the best frontman for the group.
For what it's worth, Bon Scott replaced him in 1974 and played with the band until he died in 1980. Brian Johnson followed in their footsteps and has since become the permanent AC/DC singer over the past years.
"Well, first, Dave Evans is the best, of course. That's me, okay? Of course. And most of my fans will tell you exactly that, too," he said, calling himself a maestro.
While he declared himself the best singer, Evans explained that no one should compare Scott and Johnson because of their different vocal styles.
Evans went on, "If you're an AC/DC fan, you must embrace the whole band, because first of all, there were the five founding members, and I'm one of 'em. And if you're biased against one or the other, then you're not really an AC/DC fan. If you're a Bon Scott AC/DC fan or a Brian Johnson AC/DC fan, you're a fan of part of the band."
Why Did Dave Evans Leave AC/DC?
Far from the reasons behind other band members' exits, Evans left AC/DC due to financial reasons.
In his interview with the "Guarda Volume" podcast, Evans revealed that he and his bandmates were not getting paid. He also got involved in a heated argument with their manager because of the issue.
After the confrontation, he ultimately left the band to join Rabbit and pursue a solo career.
As a soloist, Evans has already released hit tracks through the years, including "We Don't Dance to Your Song [Live]," "Rockin' in the Parlor [Live]," "Guitarman" and "Heartbreak Hotel," to name a few.
