When Taylor Swift released her new album, The Tortured Poets Department, many were surprised when she gave a shoutout to Charlie Puth in one of the songs. Puth himself seems to be shocked.
The pop star mentioned Puth in the album's title track, in which she sang: "You smoked then ate seven bars of chocolate/ We declared Charlie Puth should be a bigger artist."
Nearly two weeks after the album was released, Puth finally reacted to the shoutout by taking it to his Instagram story and sharing an image of the singer's photo with the text "The Tortured Poets Department" handwritten.

According to People magazine, this wasn't the first time the two singers interacted with one another, as Puth has been open with his adoration for the pop star.
In concert, he's covered some of Swift's songs, such as "Teardrops on My Guitar."
"This is why she's such a genius, man. These are the chord changes. It's wonderful. I think it's wonderful," he said at one of his shows.

Puth also welcomed Swift to TikTok when she officially joined in 2021. He commented, "fellow Sag," referring to their zodiac sign, to which the "Fortnight" songstress replied, "I've lurked your account for ages! Thanks for the welcome, piano prince."
Aside from Swift, Puth has also interacted with Matty Healy in the past, as The 1975 musician commended him for his Boyz II Men track.

Aside from Puth, Swift also name-dropped the late poet Dylan Thomas and musician Patti Smith.
In other updates about Taylor Swift, the pop star celebrated the success of The Tortured Poets Department by taking to social media to express her gratitude.
"2.6 million ARE YOU ACTUALLY SERIOUS?? Thank you for listening, streaming, and welcoming Tortured Poets into your life. Feeling completely overwhelmed," she wrote.

Moreover, it appears that the musician will be adding some of these new songs to her setlist for her return to The Eras Tour.
She told her followers that she was "already so fired up" to get back on stage this May 9, 2024.
