Beyoncé's has had such an impact on the world in the past few years that her name is now worthy of inclusion in a French dictionary. The pop star's name along with the names of other entertainment and sports figures will  be added to the dictionary.

Beyoncé's Name Will be Added to the French Dictionary

According to a report from The Times, Beyoncé will be one of the selected 40 people to be included in the French encyclopedic dictionary Petit Larousse Illustré.

Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter, popularly known as Beyoncé, will be listed as a proper noun in the dictionary defined as an "American singer of R&B and pop."

According to Le Point, Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett, famed director Christopher Nolan, and NBA superstar LeBron James are among the 40 entries added to the French dictionary.

Larousse Head of Dictionaries Carine Girac-Marinier told the outlet that the new entries in the dictionary "reflect concerns, developments or strong movements this year."

French actors Catherine Heigl and Omar Sy will also be included, while sports superstars like Antoine Dupont and Antoine Griezmann have also been announced as new additions, as will French singer-songwriter Mylène Farmer and Belgian-French actress Virginie Efira.

The "zeitgeist, or the ideas and concepts" that are occupying society, is reflected in the endorsements being made to the the French dictionary, according to Bernard Cerquiglini, a linguistics professor and advisor to Petit Larousse Illustré.

Despite the presence of English-speaking people in the French vocabulary, linguistic authorities are often hesitant to accept other English terminology and advise users to choose French substitutes whenever feasible.

Beyoncé's Success in 2023, 2024

Indeed, Beyoncé has been one of the most prominent music and entertainment figures in the recent years.

At the 2023 Grammy Awards, Beyoncé made history by becoming the artist with the most Grammy wins ever, with 32 total wins to date when she received her Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Music Album for Renaissance.

She also capped off her successful Renaissance World Tour last October 2023, yielding a box-office sale of $579 million, Variety reports. Beyoncé also released Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé, a documentary concert film which she wrote, directed, and produced. The film reportedly raked in $44.4 million at the box office, according to The Numbers.

In 2024, Beyoncé released Cowboy Carter, which debuted atop the Billboard 200, making it the first country album by a Black female artist to debut atop the all genre chart.
