The Rolling Stones is currently traveling across North America for their stadium tour in support of their latest album, Hackney Diamonds. More recently, the creative team behind the band's series of concerts spoke out and shared what happens at their shows behind closed doors.
Lighting designer Patrick Woodroffe spoke with Rolling Stone to give fans an insight into the behind-the-scenes process of the group's concerts, saying it was a privilege to see the legendary band perform during rehearsals.
"It's thrilling still, even after all this time. They always get together for at least three or four weeks to rehearse for a leg of the tour," he said.
He recalled the band rehearsing without costumes, a stage set, or any stage theatrics, as they just picked up their instruments and started to play songs.
Woodroffe then revealed that the band would continue playing and rehearsing their tracks even though they already performed classic songs like "Gimme Shelter" and "Satisfaction" several times in the past.
To ensure a seamless run, Woodroffe noted that the band would practice 60 to 70 songs back when rehearsing in Los Angeles.
"They've always had really high standards, particularly about rehearsing, even during some of the more chaotic periods of their career. I see them in rehearsal as a small group of players just wanting to make their music," he added.
