Liam Payne's ex-fiancee, Maya Henry, has released a new novel, Looking Forward. Henry claims she was inspired by personal journals she had written during the pandemic while in a relationship with Payne.
While she insisted that the book was fiction, she said it was "inspired by true events." The novel revolves around the story of a model's tumultuous relationship with a British pop star.
In the novel, Mallory, the model, went through a complicated abortion, as her partner, Oliver, did not approve of her pregnancy.
Speaking to People, Henry revealed that she went through a "very similar" journey to what Mallory had in the book.
"I definitely did have some complications, and I did have to go to the hospital alone," Henry said about her abortion. "It was very lonely, having these men tell you, 'Oh, it's going to feel like a heavy period, it's not going to be that painful, it's going to be easy.' But I'm like, you've never even gone through anything like [this], so how would you know to tell me? That's why I wanted to include it in the book, because I've seen so many people online talk about taking the abortion pill and it was the most painful thing for them. It's just mind-boggling to me that you could tell a woman how they're going to feel."
In the interview, Henry concluded that if it were up to her, she "wouldn't have done it."
"But then also, if I were to have made a different decision, then I would've lost the person that I loved," she added.
While Henry did not indicate if Payne was the ex-partner she was referring to in the novel, people online believed otherwise.
"I'm pretty sure it's all autobiographic and she just published it as fiction to not get in legal trouble. Someone summarised all of it on twitter and it just got worse and worse. I am so incredibly sorry for her. And I am absolutely disgusted by Liam Payne," a user said on Reddit.
"The abortion ultimatum is extra surprising to me considering Liam already had a son by that point. Why was another baby such a problem for him? Makes you wonder how involved with Bear he is if the idea of another brought out that response," one wondered.
Us Weekly reported that Payne and Henry have been linked since 2018, but they called it quits in 2022 after getting engaged in 2020.
