Patti LaBelle celebrated her 80th birthday on May 24 and has a new album planned to commemorate the occasion.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight at her birthday party last week, LaBelle revealed she has a new album planned for release some time later this year and its title is inspired by her age and the time she's been working in the music industry.
"It should be out at the end of this year, and it's called 8065," she said. "I'm 80 years young and 65 years in show business." She also said she's feeling fine, despite turning 80. "Age is a number," she said. "I'm 80 and still, still good!"
LaBelle said she hasn't had an album out in 20 years, but that's not quite correct. Her last album, Bel Hommage, was released in 2017, but failed to crack the Billboard 200.
The veteran crooner also revealed that she's open to collaborating with her "new best friend" Cardi B.
"Why not?" LaBelle said, adding that the rapper is "like one of my new best friends. And to know that she was into Patti LaBelle, she's like my new buddy."
Although they haven't made music together, LaBelle and Cardi B have engaged in some promotional activities together for their food products.
Back around Thanksgiving time, Cardi came to LaBelle's home with her pumpkin-flavored Whip Shots Vodka to pair with LaBelle's Good Life Pies. Of course, the moment was captured by cameras and shared on Instagram.
"Being with Ms Patti and her family was such a honor," Cardi said of the meeting on Instagram. "The way she speaks with such gentleness, calmness, and grace is soooo soothing.. I kept asking her questions just to hear her talk and one hug from her was so warm it makes you just feel welcome and like you knew her forever!"
"So charming and so sweet but at the same time you can tell she can get real Philly on ya ass if she needs to!" she added. "Thank you so much @mspattilabelle you are everything and I'm coming over for dinner every chance I get!!!"
While it remains to be seen if a Cardi B-LaBelle collaboration will happen, Cardi has teamed with Megan Thee Stallion and GloRilla for the new "Wanna Be" remix due on Friday (May 31).
