Sean "Diddy" Combs has reportedly returned the honor to New York City Mayor Eric Adams.

TMZ reported that Diddy had returned the Key to Mayor Adams after he requested it back after the former's video of assaulting Cassie Ventura emerged.

Adams reportedly asked Diddy to return the Key as early as June 4, 2024, and Diddy returned the Key on June 10, 2024.

"Like many people, I was deeply disturbed by recent video footage of Sean 'Diddy' Combs assaulting his then partner," Adams wrote in his letter sent to Diddy's residence in Miami and Los Angeles. "I strongly condemn these actions and stand in solidarity with all survivors of domestic and gender-based violence. Our city has worked tirelessly to make sure survivors are heard and seen by our administration. The Key to the City of New York is presented to individuals whose service to the public and the common good rises to the highest level of achievements, and who act as a model for fellow and future New Yorkers."

According to Adams, he has accepted the deliberations of the Key to the City of New York committee, which recommended that he nullify and rescind Diddy's Key.

Adams awarded Diddy the Key to New York City in September 2023, declaring him the "embodiment of the New York City attitude."

The news came days after Howard University also revoked Diddy's honorary degree, which they conferred on the embattled rapper in 2014.

The Dig, Howard University's official publication, reported the Board had expressed its disgust at Diddy's actions after watching his brutal assault on Ventura.

"This acceptance revokes all honors and privileges associated with the degree. Accordingly, the Board has directed that his name be removed from all documents listing honorary degree recipients of Howard University," the university said in a statement.

According to them, Diddy's behavior in the brutal assault video is "so fundamentally incompatible" with the university's core values that he is "deemed no longer worthy to hold the institution's highest honor."

"The Board has also directed the University administration to immediately take the following actions: terminate a 2016 gift agreement with Mr. Combs, disband the scholarship program in his name, return his $1 million contribution, and terminate a 2023 pledge agreement with the Sean Combs Foundation," they furthered.
