Justin Timberlake's arrest in Sag Harbor, New York, sparked further conversation among celebrities. CBS Mornings host Gayle King defended Timberlake, who has since been constantly scrutinized online.

"Justin Timberlake is a really, really great guy," King pointed out. "Listen, this was clearly a mistake. I bet nobody knows it more than he."

Although King described it as a "stupid" mistake, she insisted that Timberlake is "not an irresponsible," "reckless" or "careless" type of person.

King also emphasized the importance of responsible decision-making, stressing that "there is never any excuse for" driving while intoxicated. He urged individuals to take proactive steps such as calling a cab, reaching out to a friend, or using a ride-hailing service if they or someone they know ever find themselves in a similar situation.

Notably, Timberlake's legal troubles arose when he was arrested for driving while intoxicated in Sag Harbor, New York, on June 18, 2024.

"[Timberlake] was out to dinner with friends, and cop cars were stationed outside the restaurant like most nights," an insider told The Daily Mail. "They look for people who are leaving after midnight who might have been drinking."

He was charged with a count of driving while intoxicated and cited for two traffic violations. Eventually, the singer was released without bail on Tuesday morning.

Although Timberlake maintained that he only had one martini, the complaint listed him as someone who "was unable to divide attention," having "slowed speech," "unsteady afoot, and even "performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests."

Following his arrest, Timberlake's ex-girlfriend, Britney Spears, posted on Instagram a photo of herself enjoying an alcoholic beverage and a video of herself feeling her "first cocktail dress ever."

She captioned the photo of her sipping what many perceived as a cocktail: "It's the little things you know."

An eyewitness told The New York Post that the singer sipped someone else's cocktail before leaving the American Hotel in Sag Harbor.

"He was wasted. At one point, just before closing, somebody got up to go to the bathroom and left his drink on the table," the eyewitness recalled. "When [the man] came back, [Timberlake] was drinking his drink. The guy goes, 'Justin, that's my drink!'"
