Coldplay's highly anticipated performance hit at the 2024 Glastonbury had hit a minor snag.
Chris Martin and his bandmates surprisingly showed up 15 minutes behind schedule.
The band made their presence known without hesitation by opening their set with the crowd-favorite "Yellow." From there, they seamlessly transitioned into a string of hits, captivating the audience with songs like "The Scientist" and "Higher Power."
As the event started, the audience was energized, enthusiastically waving their LED wristbands while the performers unleashed confetti cannons and fireworks. However, a few attendees expressed frustration over their delayed appearance.
@147Sturls mentioned the band on X, formerly Twitter, "You're already late lads. Put a shift in!"
@solarspheres also wrote, "10 mins late ffs classic Coldplay."
"Is it really a Coldplay show if they aren't late," @humanheart___ wrote.
A staggering 100,000-strong audience, including Hollywood celebrities, tuned in to witness the show's spectacle. The massive turnout impressed viewers watching from the comfort of their homes, earning the festival the title of its "biggest ever" event to date.
@CelticEnded2iar gushed, "How awesome does that crowd look at Glastonbury here? Coldplay. Amazing."
"What an insane crowd for Coldplay at Glastonbury," @XLUCYkateee added.
In a moment that surprised Glastonbury, Coldplay shocked the audience with a special guest appearance. The unexpected appearance of actor Michael J. Fox, known for his role in Back To The Future and his battle with Parkinson's disease, brought both the live crowd of 100,000 and viewers watching on BBC to tears.
Coldplay also reached a milestone by making history as the first group to headline Glastonbury five times. Martin attributed their success in being together as a band to Michael, acknowledging him as the "main reason."
He said in an emotional speech, "The main reason why we're in a band is because of watching 'Back to the Future,' so thank you to our hero forever and one of the most amazing people on Earth, Mr. Michael J. Fox. Thank you so much, Michael."
In 1999, Coldplay first graced the stage at Glastonbury, beginning their journey at the New Bands Tent and later headlining the Glastornbury event in 2002, 2005, 2011, and 2016.
