Slayer's Gary Holt Slams Beyoncé as 'Overrated,' Praises Taylor Swift as Better Songwriter

Thrash metal guitarist Gary Holt is impressed with Taylor Swift's songwriting skills but not so much with Beyoncé's.

Holt, most renowned for his work with the bands Exodus and Slayer, recently appeared on the "Scandalous Podcast," where he shared his thoughts on the two pop superstars.

While he had nothing but praise for Swift, the metal musician criticized Beyoncé and called her the "most overrated talent on Earth."

In the July 16 episode, Holt defended the "Cruel Summer" hitmaker after host Ashley Steinmetz asked him to address the "Taylor Swift problem."

"I love Taylor Swift. Why all the hate?" Holt said. "She's an extraordinarily hard worker. She's super f*****g nice to everybody, and people hate her."

He continued, "She's just the biggest popstar on Earth and more power to her. I like the songs. I love pop."

The guitarist went on to praise Swift for taking the lead in the creation of her songs. He said that the "Fornight" singer "writes everything" and gave her credit as a songwriter.

Holt threw shade at artists who "require massive teams" to write their songs before taking shots at Beyoncé.

"Beyoncé will put out a song, and there's 30 f*****g people on it. How can 30 people write a song, all gathered together? Like you're not a songwriter, Beyoncé," he claimed. "It's just like a factory of songwriting. Who even knows who did what anymore when there's like 20 names on it?"

Beyoncé's songs typically have many more credited writers than those of Swift, who usually works with just one co-writer.

For instance, the first track on Beyoncé's "Cowboy Carter," "American Requiem," had 13 writers. In her "Renaissance" album, the song "Alien Superstar" was credited to an astounding 24 writers.

During the sit-down, Holt also made fun of Blue Ivy Carter, Beyoncé's daughter, and her budding music career.

"Her daughter got a songwriting credit and a Grammy because she probably threw some f*****g kindergarten rhyme on one line," Holt said. "She now has one-seventh the Grammys (that) Prince -- the greatest artist that ever was or ever will be -- ever got."
