'Frozen' Soundtrack Falls out of Billboard Top 10 for First Time during 2014, Following 39-Week Run

As we noted earlier this week, the Billboard 200 Top 10 was dominated by new albums this week, with seven drops placing within the first five percent of the chart. That meant that after a 39-week run, the Frozen Original Motion Picture Soundtrack fell out beyond tenth place.

The compilation placed at no. 13 on last week's charts, marking its first placement outside of the Top 10 for the first time during 2014. It last landed outside of the mark for the charts of December 28, the last count for 2013. Billboard doesn't authoritatively state that the album sold 23,000 copies during the previous week but it does hint that "it hasn't sold fewer than 23,000 in a week." This week's no. 10 album was Robert Plants Lullaby and...The Ceaseless Roar, which sold 29,000 copies in its first week. If 23,000 was the total Frozen sold during the week, then it would have placed at no. 10 on last week's charts.

This week was a difficult one for any album not relatively new. Only Awesome Mix Vol. 1, a compilation from the Guardians of The Galaxy film managed to stay within the Top 10 after more than one week on the charts, coming in at no. 9. Maroon 5 and Jeezy were the only other acts to stick around and both had released their albums just the week before.

Ariana Grande's My Everything fell to no. 11 in its third week and Banks' debut album Goddess took the no. 12 spot.

The Frozen has had a heck of a run however. It's easily the bestselling album of 2014 thus far, moving more than 3.1 million copies within the last 8.5 months, added to the 300,000 copies it sold during 2013. And it's run in the Top 10 isn't necessarily done yet. Last week obviously featured a large number of debuts, and if any week in the near future doesn't feature a significant number of debut releases, Frozen could easily reemerge.
