In an interview with Vibe at Outlook Festival in Croatia, New Orleans rapper Jay Electronica said Kendrick Lamar's infamous 'Control' verse was "a good thing."
According to Vibe, the rapper hoped to be able to include 'Control' on his upcoming album, "Act II: Patents of Nobility (The Turn)" after hearing that the track, originally slated for Big Sean's LP, "Hall of Fame," didn't clear his label.
"It was me and Big Sean, and we had verses on there," he told them. "Then, when he told me it wasn't on his album, I was gonna use it for my album. Then he told me, the day before it came out, that Kendrick Lamar put a verse on it and that we're gonna put it out."
Although Lamar mentions him as one of the rappers he planned to figuratively murder, Jay Electronica isn't threatened.
"It's a good thing for hip-hop music because hip-hop has been lying dormant for a long time," he told Vibe. "Peace to the young gods, Kendrick Lamar, TDE, Ab-Soul, Schoolboy Q, Jay Rock, Joey Bada$; peace to the young gods."
Drake and Jay Electronica have now both gone on record about the verse. We will see what the rest of the "targeted" crew has to say before it's all over.
