Moline, Illinois, got quite a surprise Friday night when Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder unveiled a new song dedicated to the city during the band's first encore. The band also played No Code in full.
"Moline, Moline," Vedder sang. "Been here before, but that must have been a dream."
The three-minute tune was actually fleshed out and clearly took some time to write — it is not apparent why Vedder decided to pay tribute to the town, as the band had never visited before and none of the other cities on the current tour have gotten their own songs.
From the QC Times:
"It's been a long time for Pearl Jam to play the Quad-Cities, but one would hope the next time will arrive much sooner. As Vedder said, as he looked over the massive crowd, a huge smile on his face, 'We've never been here before, so this is kind of like a blind date. But it's like showing up for a blind date and she's really hot. Wow.'"
