Kevin Jonas: broke up
Kevin Jonas: solo careers
In an exclusive interview with Music Times, Jonas opened up about his lack of desire to return to music. In the wake of his new food-finding app Yood and his contracting company JonasWerner (as seen on The Real Housewives of New Jersey), Jonas is just as happy out of the intense limelight.
"I had a nice little run there. It's time for something new. Nick and Joe are both doing music and that's where their hearts are going to be, which is amazing for them, and I'll continue to support them there," Jonas said. "But I'm just looking forward to the future of what I can do in a different space and it's already working and things are good."
The "new things" that Jonas is working on lay heavily in the tech and app development world. Earlier this month, he released the Yelp simplifier Yood, which allows users to search for a type of restaurant, venue or food using keywords. Instead of pulling up dozens of overwhelming results, Yood takes the "search out of search" and pulls up the highest-rated result nearby.
The app has been an overwhelming success, with over 30,000 downloads in its first few days in the iTunes App Store.
"Whenever I was on the road with my brothers and we were touring around the world, I always wanted to go somewhere new, see something exciting, but then asking the concierge at the hotel and Googling something. There was always a process," he said about Yood. "With this, you can just literally one touch of a button you can find a little café down the street that you've never been to. I wish I had this when I was touring, but now I do, so hopefully I'll use it in a different way."
When he's not developing apps, Jonas is also building homes as a part of JonasWerner contractors. "We're having so much fun. We have too many projects going on, we have nine homes being built right now as we speak, then renovations and everything. So it is not a small thing that we're doing, but it's a lot and keeping us very busy," Jonas said about his construction company.
But it's not all building homes and building apps for Jonas, and he's not wholly removed from the music world. Earlier this month, he teamed up with YouTube star Bethany Mota for her "Need You Right Now" music video.
"I met her, she talked about doing music, and I was like, 'Well I can maybe help you out there.' So I got her in touch with some of the right people -- Mike Tompkins is a really good friend under my dad's management label -- and they worked together on the song that she did, and it was great," he said about the video. "I got this idea for a lyric video, and they loved the concept and were like, 'do it.' So me and my brother-in-law Brian Gonsar worked together on it and directed and produced it."
The lyric video has since racked up nearly 3 million views in 17 days.
