Jessie J Says 'The Boy Is Mine' Remake With Ariana Grande Isn't Happening After Fans Express Their Disapproval

After fans flooded the internet expressing their disapproval, Jessie J has come forward to say that the reported "The Boy Is Mine" remake with Ariana Grande isn't happening.

Producer Rodney Jerkins took everyone by surprise earlier this month when he revealed that the two "Bang Bang" singers would recreate the 1998 Grammy-winning collaboration.

According to B. Scott, Jesse talked to U.K. newspaper The Mirror at The American Music Awards and cleared the air on the collaboration.

"No, it's not true. Neither of us have agreed. Sadly people are believing it. I spoke to Brandy and I was like, 'No, it's not happening'. Monica and Brandy are the best.'"

The rumors started flying during a Q&A with Hits Daily Double, when Jerkins mentioned the remake and said it would be a part of the celebration of a milestone anniversary.

"Next year is my 20-year anniversary and I'm doing a very special project," he said. "Some originals as well as reimagined hits. So for example, I'll do 'The Boy is Mine' with Ariana Grande and Jessie J."

Fans immediately took to social media to express their disapproval in the project. As noted by Yahoo! Music, no one seemed to object to Sam Smith covering Whitney Houston's "It's Not Right But It's Okay."

"If ariana grande and jessie j remake the boy is mine Im gonna rip my ears off so I don't have to hear it," one fan, @allyballybee90, wrote.

Another fan, @tiloco716, shared similar, less gruesome sentiments, "Ariana Grande & Jessie J are great singers but they should probably leave "The Boy Is Mine" alone. It's too much of a classic. #DontEvenTry."

"The Boy is Mine" appears on Brandy's 1998 album Never Say Never and is the title track of Monica's set released the same year. The song, inspired by Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney's "The Girl is Mine," earned the singers a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group.
