It's that time of the year again. 'Tis the season to gather around with your friends and family and listen to your favorite holiday jingles while sipping on some eggnog with a warm fire burning in the corner. The holiday season is here. This also means standing in line at the mall listening to the same 15 Christmas songs being recycled over and over again. To lighten the mood, Diplo's label, Mad Decent, has decided to put together a mixtape -- A Very Decent Christmas -- which is filled with new dance covers of classic Christmas anthems.
The constant pushing back of the Christmas season in the calendar can cause some themed music fatique, especially when the covers are unoriginal. The moment the Halloween decorations come down on Nov. 1, the Christmas music and shopping begins and Diplo's Mad Decent delivers, even if it is a bit early.
The 10-track mixtape calls upon his many label signees, including Wiwek, Splurt, DJ Fire, Jesse Slayer, Wuki and a Bethlehem version of Diplo's new tune alongside Alvaro "6th Gear."
The internet famous "#OMW2SYG" from Splurt gets a Christmas makeover with some new lyrics to go along with it. Instead of "Swiggity Swooty, give me that booty. On my way to steal your girl," Splurt specifies his seasonal mode of transportation by rapping, "On my sleigh to steal your girl."
The Davoodi remix sounds like Hudson Mohawke's most bombastic beat went to Q-Dance and somehow met in the middle. The rest of the mixtape features plenty of 808s, bass heavy and trap leaning sounds that give these Christmas jingles an almost comical feel.
As Diplo told The Fader, "Christmas was always lonely for me. I only got switches in my stockings. I wish I had an album like this to keep me warm... now you can!"
Stream the whole EP below and grab it on iTunes. It will be a very decent Christmas indeed.
