2014 has been a "Happy" year, hasn't it? Today (Dec. 9), Billboard unveiled its year-end Hot 100, and despite major hits from the likes of Katy Perry, Iggy Azalea, John Legend and Meghan Trainor, this year the year of Pharrell Williams.
Indeed, "Happy" is the No. 1 song of the year, according to Billboard's charts. The announcement should come as no surprise. "Happy" peaked at No. 1 on the Hot 100 for 10 weeks this year, dominating the spring entirely.
"Happy" was led largely by sales, with the song crowning the Digital Songs chart for the year, as well.
Pharrell's single came just one spot ahead of Perry's "Dark Horse." The Juicy J-featuring single spent four weeks at No. 1 before getting eclipsed by "Happy," though "Dark Horse" held at No. 2 for four weeks.
Springtime was huge for the charts. As "Happy" dominated, Legend's "All Of Me" played second fiddle for six weeks before topping the charts for just three weeks - though the points were enough to land Legend the No. 3 song of 2014.
Despite eight weeks at No. 1, Trainor's "All About That Bass" only holds the No. 8 spot of the year, falling behind earlier hits from OneRepublic, Jason DeRulo and MAGIC!.
Other songs landing in the top 20 include Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off," Ariana Grande's "Problem," Eminem's "The Monster" and two earlier hits from Lorde.
